2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Follows Mixed Reception
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a clearer direction.
The president noted that the team is now refining the project with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Recruitment
This announcement echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Here is the entire content from Ismailer's communication:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and talented designers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our fans.
The trust in this project grows every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. Following several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
His management and background in the competitive gaming space is vast, having spent the past decade and a half developing and managing some of the most popular series in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to persist observing the progress of the game in the time to ahead.
The President

Title Information and Concept
The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary explains. "Face the rivals with new abilities, risks, and challenges that change every round. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, put it on the line, and hope your group can achieve the highest spot? The choice is up to you."
The game has not yet received an announced launch window or supported systems, but players can anticipate additional details as development progresses.
